Rita's Story

Last week, in the run-up to our Serve the City weekend, the team decided that a video interview with someone we've served would be a great feature for the information night.  Later, as I thought about it and tried to pull something together, I realized that I was in way over my head.  In order to put something together worth showing, we were going to need someone who actually knew what they were doing.  So last minute, I gave our colleague, Durand, a ring.  Durand and his wife, Ruth, were here in Ireland for most of the 90's and have recently moved back after living in Germany for a time.  After assessing the nature of my request (i.e., "last-minute with no professional equipment"), Durand reluctantly, though graciously, agreed to help us out.  We filmed  on Wednesday night, edited for about 6 hours on Thursday (on another colleague's iMac, of course) and showed the finished product on Friday night.  Durand did a great job of capturing Rita's gratitude towards Serve the City and I learned a whole lot about video production just from watching over his shoulder.  I think the video provides a great little picture of the work of Serve the City and the impact that it's having.

I was one of those people! I was part of one of those groups! Rita was an amazing lady, and it's so neat to see this video! I and two friends took our trip to Dublin last March and got to hang out with Rita for a week. We are planning to go back this March.
